What is the Flipped Learning Model?
The flipped learning model moves direct instruction outside of class making time for active learning opportunities in class. Teachers use class time to create rich learning opportunities allowing for deeper exploration of topics. This model asks teachers to develop intentional content evaluating what concepts absolutely need to be learned and adding more in the active learning activities. Classroom dynamics change from being teacher centered, where the teacher is "on the stage" to a student centered one, with students taking on more agency. The professional educator takes on an even more important role actively providing real time feedback and assistance as students work together in class. |
What is Action Research?
"Action Research is about two things: action (what you do) and research (how you learn about and explain what you do). The action part of action research is about improving practice. The research aspect is about creating knowledge about practice. The knowledge created is your knowledge of your practice." Jean McNiff and Jack Whitehead "You and Your Action Research Project" 3rd Ed. The Researcher and Learning Partner Pam Ros Damarillo is a student of Pepperdine's Masters of Learning Technologies, Cadre 16. Tanya Sanchez is a veteran science teacher of a public middle school. Both reside in the greater Los Angeles Area. |
